El Tovar Hotel offers rustic elegance right on the edge of the Grand Canyon's South Rim. The hotel, a National Historic Landmark, opened in 1905 and was renovated in 2005. Rooms got new furniture and bedding, and baths were modernized, with pedestal sinks, new fixtures and more.
The hotel has hosted such luminaries as Theodore Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, Western author Zane Grey and many others. Ponder that as you relax in a rocking chair on the porch in good weather or in front of a roaring fire in the lobby when it's cold.
El Tovar has a fine-dining room, lounge, gift shop and newsstand. The concierge can help guests plan tours of the Canyon. There are 78 rooms and suites, all with cable television, telephone, full bath and air conditioning. Some suites have a porch or balcony.
